According to a serosurvey report undertaken by the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) in Bhubaneswar, 85 percent of health care professionals in three Odisha districts carry COVID antibodies.

Between June 16 and June 20, 2021, the fourth round of serosurvey was conducted in Ganjam, Rayagada, and Koraput districts. Antibodies were detected in 85.53 percent of healthcare workers in certain districts. Overall serosurvey was 65.12 percent.

This survey included a total sample size of 1230 people from the population and 311 healthcare workers. According to the survey, Ganjam topped the list with 70.9 percent seroprevalence, followed by Rayagada and Koraput with 63 percent and 61.3 percent, respectively.

The second wave of Covid19 has wrought havoc in Odisha. The state recorded the highest number of positive cases, 12852, on May 22, 2021. Daily cases have been declining since the beginning of July, the number fell to 1864 on July 23, 2021.

The state health authorities are concerned about the districts of Khordha, Cuttack, Balasore, and Jajpur, where daily positive cases are still in the triple digits. According to the Odisha Information and Public Relations department, Khordha had the most positive cases with 496 on July 23, followed by Cuttack with 221 instances, Balasore with 114, and Jajpur with 107 on the same day.

Odisha now has a total of 19013 active cases.
