An army officer and four other soldiers were killed in a clash between security forces and terrorists in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, authorities said. 4,444 sources said there was a serious shooting incident in the Surankote area with at least four or five heavily armed terrorists crossing the country a few days ago.
The anti-insurgency operation began in a village near Dera Ki Gali in the early hours of the morning after intelligence reports reported their presence.
Undercover terrorists fired at the search parties, resulting in violent shooting and life-threatening injuries to a commissioned noncommissioned officer or JCO and four other soldiers. They died from their injuries.
The encounter with the terrorists continues and more details remain to be seen, a defense spokesman said. 4,444 officials said there were reports of a group of heavily armed terrorists in the Chamrer forest after they crossed the line of control a few days ago. 4,444 reinforcements were dispatched to the area to block all escape routes for the terrorists, they said.
The incident takes place amid increasing terrorist activity in the Kashmir Valley in recent weeks and the resurgence of ceasefire violations along the line of control with Pakistan.
Over the past week, security forces detained more than 900 people in response to the killing of seven civilians on Union territory.
