In the midst of the ongoing fight against the deadly coronavirus, the world set a new global milestone by performing the most COVID-19 tests in a single day – 20 lakh – according to the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday.

The accomplishment came at a time when daily COVID recoveries outnumbered daily new cases for the sixth day in a row.

“More than 20 lakh tests were performed in the last 24 hours (the most ever performed in a single day in India), although the daily positivity rate has dropped to 13.31%,” the Health Ministry said.

“20.08 lakh tests performed in the world in the last 24 hours is also a global milestone,” the ministry said.

Since the COVID pandemic started, over 32 crore experiments have been performed throughout the world. Meanwhile, regular recoveries in India outnumbered daily new cases for the sixth consecutive day, with 3,89,851 recoveries reported in the last 24 hours.

On Wednesday, India’s combined recoveries crossed 2,19,86,363, and the National Recovery Rate increased to 86.23%.

Karnataka leads the way with 58,395 new recoveries, led by Maharashtra (52,898), Kerala (45,926), Rajasthan (25,160), Tamil Nadu (21,362), Andhra Pradesh (21,274), Uttar Pradesh (21,108), West Bengal (19,050), Haryana (14,897), and Chandigarh (12,098).

Keeping the optimistic momentum going, India reported less than 3 lakh new cases for three consecutive days, with 2,67,334 new cases being recorded in the last 24 hours.

In the last 24 hours, ten states recorded 74.46% of new incidents. Tamil Nadu has reported the most regular new cases, with 33,059, led by Kerala, which has reported 31,337 new cases.

On the other hand, India’s cumulative Active Caseload was 32,26,719 on Wednesday. In the last 24 hours, there has been a cumulative decrease of 1,27,046. It now accounts for 12.66% of all positive cases in the world. Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal account for 69.02 percent of all active cases in India
