Kapil Sharma

The undisputed King of Indian stand-up comedy, Kapil Sharma is also a TV Presenter, Actor, and producer. Sharma’s career has been a fusion of European styled standup comedy and a brand of humor unique to India.

He was born on the 2nd of April 1981 in a town in Punjab called Amritsar. He went to Dav Public School before going to college at the Khalsa College in Amritsar, Punjab. Kapil’s first foray into entertainment came when he won the “The Great Indian Laughter” in 2007 and also participated at the Sony’s Comedy Circus, where he became a serial champion winning the show for six consecutive seasons.

Kapil has also been a host of numerous shows which includes a dance reality show named “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” and also a comedy show “Chhote Miyan” just to name a few. In 2013, he launched his own show named “Comedy Nights with Kapil”. Kapil was honored when he was presented the Indian of the Year Award in the entertainment category by longtime actor Amol Palekar at the CNN-IBN Indian Year awards in 2013.

Aside from being a stand-up comedian, Kapil is also an actor and made his Bollywood debut in the movie Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon where he was the lead actor The movie was a romantic comedy which was released on the 25th of September 2015 to a barrage of mixed reviews from critics and fans. Kapil’s show Comedy Nights with Kapil came to an end when he signed a contract with Sony TV for a new show called The Kapil Sharma Show which was aired for the first time on the 23rd of April 2016 and received a wide range of positive responses from viewers and critics alike.

One of Kapil’s interests is animal protection, He featured in a PETA campaign to raise awareness for the adoption of homeless cats. He himself adopted a homeless retired police dog in July 2014, he has lent his voice to the push to save endangered elephants across his home country.

He is currently working on two new movies which he signed in December 2016. He made his second Bollywood appearance in the movie Firangi which was released on the 1st of December 2017 which was directed and produced by Rajiev Dhingra. The movie Firangi is a historical drama film set in the year 1920. He has recently shown his more family oriented side in his new show called Family Time with Kapil Sharma which was launched on the 25th of March 2018.

Kapil Sharma has been recognized both nationally and globally, Ormax ranked him as the most popular Indian personality in April 2016. He has also been recognized by Forbes India as the 11th most famous Celebrity in a 100 man-list. The following year 2017, he was ranked 18th on the list.

His series of accolades include been awarded the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2013, (Entertainment category) He was also ranked the third Most Admired Indian Personality by The Economic Times in 2015. His country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi also nominated him for the prestigious Swachh Bharat Abhiyan award.

Family

His father Jeetendra Kumar was a policeman and the head constable of the Punjab Police while his mother Janak Rani was a full-time housewife. His father passed away in 2004 after his battle with cancer. He was diagnosed in 1997, he passed away at the AIIMS in Delhi.

He has two other siblings his brother Ashok Kumar Sharma who followed in the footsteps of his father by becoming a policeman and his sister is Pooja Pawan Devgan.
