Five people were killed and 18 others were injured in four lightning strikes in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district on Saturday, according to local officials.

The events occurred on Friday in Panna district’s Ureha, Pipariya Daun, Choumukha, and Simrakhurd villages, according to district officials.

Two ladies were killed in the lightning hit in Simrakhurd, while Ureha, Pipariya Daun, and Choumukha villages each reported one casualty.

In Simrakhurd, a 70-year-old man was murdered by lightning while grazing cattle in a forest, while another person died in Pipariya Daun and a 65-year-old man was slain in Choumukha, according to sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Rachna Sharma said.

The lightning strikes in these three villages harmed seven people, she added.

Apart from that, two women in their twenties were struck by lightning while working in a field in Ureha village, according to collector Sanjay Kumar Mishra, who added that 11 people were injured and are being treated at the Panna district hospital.
