Mirabai Chanu stands chance to get gold if Chinese weightlifter fails dope test.

China’s Zhihui Hou is set to undergo a doping test at the Tokyo Olympics, 2 days after she won the women’s 49kg weightlifting gold, setting a new Olympic record of 210kg.

It was Zhihui Hou who finished above India’s Mirabai Chanu and won the competition on Saturday. Mirabai, who holds the world record for Clean and Jerk, managed a total of 202, 8 less than Zhihui.

As it turns out, Zhihui has been asked to undergo a doping test by the authorities at the Tokyo Games. There is an adverse analytical finding, meaning there will be tests to figure out if there is anything adverse in the first sample.

The anti-doping authorities will check and see if Zhihu had given an undertaking for medicines before the Games.

Zhihu set a new Olympic record of 94kg in Snatch and followed it up with 116 in Clean and Jerk for another Olympic record. Mirabai lifted 87 in snatch and successfully lifted 115 in Clean and Jerk. Mirabai went for 117 in her final attempt but she was unable to complete the lift.

While Zhihui finished on the top step of the podium and Mirabai took the silver, Indonesia’s Windy Cantika won the bronze with a total lift of 194kg.
