Urban Development and Housing Minister Bhupendra Singh has directed that all urban bodies should adopt the process of “manhole to machine-hole” and ensure cleaning of sewers, manholes and septic tanks by modern machines. Along with this, provide the benefit of the Swachhata Udyami Yojana to sanitation entrepreneurs.

It is notable that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced that “there will be a provision for sanitation policy in urban bodies to get manholes cleaned with machines.”

Minister Shri Singh has said that financial and institutional provisions have also been made by the department to promote mechanized cleaning of manholes and septic tanks. Besides, the Swachhata Udyami Yojana has also been implemented with the aim of providing employment to the Safai Mitras engaged in cleaning.

Manual cleaning of manholes and septic tanks is completely banned in the state. In this regard, all the districts have also been declared to be “manual scavenging” free districts. Instructions have also been given by the Government of India to implement the “manhole to machine-hole” scheme.
