Executing Gujarat Model to close checkposts

Movement of vehicles will be smooth at the transport checkpost

In order to provide great relief to the vehicle operators at the transport checkposts operating in the State, the checking system will be modernized by closing the checkposts on the lines of Gujarat state to make the movement of vehicles easy and simple.

With this modernization, on the one hand the vehicle owners will get great relief and on the other hand the drivers will save time. Giving information about the said change, State Transport Minister Govind Singh Rajput said that till the Gujarat model is implemented, 7 temporary checkposts (Pranpur, Biloa, Nahar, Samarsa, Karhal, Raniganj Tigela, Rajna) have been set up to facilitate the movement of vehicles on the transport checkposts running in the State and apart from this, all the 6 checking points currently running will be closed from today itself.

Rajput said that manual challan action of vehicles at the checkpost will be stopped in a phased manner.

In the coming time, challan processing will be done through modern POS machines and the challan amount will be deposited online.

Apart from this, as per the rules of the Motor Vehicle Act, there will be no challan action on the vehicles running empty, challan action will be taken only on the vehicles running against the rules at the check post, he said.

Transport Minister Rajput said that modernization of vehicle checking system by closing the checkposts will be completed in a phased manner by December 14, 2023, on the lines of the Gujarat model, he said.

Because out of 40 permanent checkposts operated in the state, 19 integrated checkposts are operated by MPRDC and M.P. Border Checkpost Development Corporation is being done under the agreement between them, he said.
Revenue and Transport Minister Govind Singh Rajput said that at present the system of manual checking is going on at transport checkposts in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Kerala etc.

To implement the Gujarat model in the state, additional human resources will also be required along with necessary resources such as breath analyzers, speed radars, portable weighing scales, body-worn cameras, POS machines at all transport checkposts, which will be completed by December 14.

State Transport Minister Govind Singh Rajput said that generally checking of overloading, insurance and fitness etc. in goods and passenger vehicles is done in transport checkposts about the various standards as per the Motor Vehicles Act and the Supreme Court Safety Committee.

Rajput said that by implementing GST from the year 2017, instructions have been given by the Government of India to link to the Vahan-Saarthi portal by creating a cashless system for checking vehicles and taking action on them.

In the same sequence, the vehicle portal has been started in the state in March 2023, so that now the information about all the vehicles of the state and the country is available online, he informed.

Apart from this, at present the services of driving license, RC, fitness, permit and renewal etc. have been made faceless and modern in the Transport Department, he said.

Checkpost system of 11 states was studied:

Transport Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Jha told that for the purpose of providing relief to the vehicle operators, A high-level committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Additional Transport Commissioner Arvind Saxena to suggest a better alternative system after studying the process being adopted by other states as compared to the current system of transport checkposts running in the state.

This committee has studied the system of checkposts running in 11 states and given suggestions and recommendations, on which the Transport Department will take immediate action and implement them in the state.
