The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak successfully organized the Zonal Chess Competition (West Zone – Men’s Category) of the Association of Indian Universities, which lasted for one week.

In which about 500 chess players from 70 universities of the Western Zone of the Association of Indian Universities participated.

In the inaugural session, Professor SPM Tripathi described this event of chess competition as unprecedented.

He said there is no queen in chess but the entire army makes united efforts to save the king. In the same way, the entire university is working day and night with solidarity in this event of the university.

The university administration has taken all-round care to ensure that the players, their coaches and team managers who have come from far off places do not face any kind of trouble.

The 7 days is no less than a celebration for the University. It is our endeavor that the game runs smoothly without any hindrance, for this we have called arbitrators from every corner of the country who are well versed in chess.
This is the first time in the history of the University that such a large number of students, as well as their coaches and team managers, participated in such an event.

A total of 7 rounds were played on 4 boards as per the rules of chess in which University student Ravindra Sethi won the gold medal on single board. In team sports, Pune’s Savitribai Phule University secured the first position, thus Maharashtra continued to dominate the top four teams in the West Zone.

The players of Barkatullah University Bhopal secured the seventh position in the team event.

The concluding session was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Tripathi and the chief guest Yashpal Solanki Arjuna Award (Judo) awardee and special guest Dr. Arun Kumar with program coordinator Prof. Ajay Wagh, Co-Convenor Professor Tarun Kumar Thakur and Co-Secretary Hareram Pandey and Sheel Mandal’s President Sheela Tripathi were present.

On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor said “The game of chess is played with white and black pieces.”

This is very interesting game, in which the king moves only one house and the whole army lives to save it. This game is fun when one of the pawns becomes the wazir, he said.

That’s why the game of chess is very important in our life. Connected because every person has a desire to become a Wazir and that desire can be fulfilled only when he considers himself a pawn and while struggling with the difficult situations of life, does not give up and brings himself to the place where Wazir, then God himself came to meet him, he said.

Dr. Arun Kumar praised the facilities provided by the High School University.

He said that sports inspire us to move forward, even if it is chess. That’s why it is necessary to play if you want to move forward in life. India will play, we have to adopt Prime Minister Modi’s motto ‘India will play only then India will play’.
