Culture, Tourism and Religious Trust and Endowments Minister Usha Thakur has said that archeology should be conveyed to future generations in an attractive, interesting and easy language.

Thakur was addressing the launch ceremony of activities under World Heritage Week at the State Museum.

Minister Thakur said that archeology is our identity. Present its facts on scientific basis. Develop a sense of pride in our culture and heritage in future generations. India, the Jagatguru of the 21st century, can be built only when we believe that we are the conductors of the age-old world-winning culture.

Principal Secretary Culture and Tourism Sheo Shekhar Shukla said that archeology and history should be made subjects of the people. It is the duty of the department as well as the society to pass on our glorious history to future generations. We all should inculcate a sense of pride and love for our history and culture in future generations. Such programmes will be organised continuously by the Culture Department.

Minister Thakur inaugurated the exhibition of clay idols in the State Museum during the World Heritage Week. This exhibition has been organised in collaboration with Dr. Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar Archaeological Research Institute. Minister Thakur also released the book “Chhatarpur Jile Ka Puratatva” (Archaeology of Chhatarpur District) published by the Directorate of Archaeology.

Minister Thakur awarded the winners of photography done on the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. One lakh rupees as first prize was given to Shri Anoop Gandhe of Pune for the photograph of Bithoji Holkar’s Chhatri, Rs.50,000 as second prize to Shri Rajesh Lad of Gwalior for the photograph of Tomb of Mohammad Ghaus, Gwalior, Sudhanshu Tiwari was awarded Rs 25,000 as the third prize for his photograph of Jal Mahal Mandu along with certificates. Besides, Shri Satish Verma of Varanasi, Akarsh Arya of Indore and Shri Pranab Basak of Kolkata were given Rs. 10,000 and certificates as consolation prizes.

In the programme of the State Museum, Dr. Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar Institute of Archaeological Research Bhopal Director Shri Prakash Paranjpe, Prof. SK Dwivedi of Jiwaji University, Dr. Manuel Joseph, Retired Superintendent of Archaeological Survey of India, Delhi and Dr. RC Thakur, Director of Ashwini Research Institute, Ujjain, delivered lectures on scientific aspects of archeology and their importance. A large number of archeology and history lovers were present along with departmental officers.
