Women should get a safe and dignified environment at the social level at home, work place and public places. Along with this, gender based violence should be stopped strictly.

For this, along with awareness, action is also necessary in the related legal provisions. A national campaign against gender-based violence is being launched in the country, which will continue till 23 December.

Chief Executive Officer State Rural Livelihood Mission L.M. Belwal gave this information in a workshop on the implementation of the National Campaign against Gender-Based Violence.

State Project Manager Anita Vatsalya conducted the workshop held in the Madhya Pradesh Day State Rural Livelihood Mission office. Officers of other related departments including school education, social justice and disabled welfare were present.

It was informed in the workshop that the Prohibition of Sexual Harassment of Women Act-2013 (POSH ACT) is functional to provide security to women at the workplace. Committees have been formed in all the departments. The concerned departmental officers should ensure that the committees work effectively.

To prevent gender-based violence, it is necessary to understand and identify it, speak out against it, seek support to deal with it, and show solidarity and support to those fighting gender-based violence.

In this regard, publicity and awareness of helpline number 112, cyber cell number 1930, counseling service, psychiatric help and one stop center is necessary.

Institutional arrangements have been made in the state to remove gender inequality. Gender Sakhi, Gender Forum, Self-Help Group, Village Organization, Cluster Level Organization, Lok Adhikar Kendra (19) and Nari Adhikar Kendra (34) are functioning.

The School Education Department should organize activities including discussion, essay writing, debate competition, Prabhat-pheri, workshop on ‘Bad Touch-Good Touch’ on topics like gender-based violence, child-labour, child-marriage etc. in schools.

First line treatment and mental health by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, sensitive action in cases of violence against women by the Police Department, awareness in related areas by the Department of Scheduled Castes and activities like de-addiction campaign by Tribal Welfare and Social Justice and Disabled Welfare Department should be done. Awareness activities will be widely publicized by the Public Relations Department.
