The MP Cabinet approved merger of the Public Health and Family Welfare Department and the Medical Education Department to form new department – “Public Health and Medical Education Department”.

The cabinet met here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, approved the merger of Public Health and Family Welfare Department and Medical Education Department.

Public Health and Family Welfare Department and Medical Education Department will be merged and reconstituted as “Public Health and Medical Education Department”.

The Medical colleges will be able to focus on critical/specialized treatment and medical education instead of providing routine medical services.

Effective monitoring of infant mortality and maternal mortality will be easier.

Best practices of medical colleges can be used in health centres.

It will become easier to affiliate district hospitals with medical colleges.

There will be facility in better implementation and control of health policy and departmental schemes.

The merger of both the departments was recommended in the roadmap of Atmanirbhar Madhya Pradesh.

Amendment in Madhya Pradesh Medical Sciences University Act, 2011

The Cabinet approved amendment in the provisions of Madhya Pradesh Medical University Act, 2011.

Presently the University of Medical Sciences offers courses in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Naturopathy etc.

In view of increase in number of nursing and paramedical institutions and students, the University of Medical Sciences will be given the responsibility of conducting courses in subjects other than nursing and paramedical.

The courses related to nursing and paramedical subjects will be conducted through other universities established under the Higher Education Department.

Rs 87 crore 25 lakh for Malhargarh Lift Irrigation Project

The Cabinet gave administrative approval for the Malhargarh Lift Irrigation Project of Rs 87 crore 25 lakh on Betwa River in Mungavali Tehsil of Ashoknagar.

The project will irrigate 7500 hectare area of 26 villages of Mungawali tehsil.

Rs 264 crore approved for construction of Talawada Barrage in Ratlam

The Cabinet approved Talawada Barrage (Dam) involving Rs 264 crore 1 lakh under Mahi and Majhodia Group Water Supply Scheme to expand drinking water supply in Ratlam district.

As many as 1011 villages of Ratlam district will get benefit from the project under Jal Jeevan Mission.

Its construction and maintenance will be done by the Water Resources Department.

Amendment in Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974

The Cabinet approved the proposal to be sent to the Parliament for amendment in the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974. Amendments are proposed in the law such as removing minor crimes related to water pollution from the category of crime and making provision for fine.

Prime Minister’s College of Excellence in all districts

Under the National Education Policy, the Cabinet gave approval to establish in all districts at least one Prime Minister’s College of Excellence.

Additional 1845 academic posts and 387 non-academic posts have been approved in the selected colleges. For this, a total expenditure of Rs 485 crore was approved.

Approval of sixth pay scale

The Cabinet also approved sixth pay scale for the teachers/employees of non-government institutions receiving grants under the Tribal Affairs Department from January 1, 2006 and an estimated expenditure of Rs 206 crore 80 lakh.

Amendment in the Madhya Pradesh Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024 was also approved.
