From now on, caste certificates will be valid for a lifetime. The government has done away with the system of renewing caste certificates issued to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and the backward classes. Henceforth, these certificates, once issued, are valid for a lifetime, unless they are cancelled by the government for any reason.

Announcing this while launching Sakala here on Monday, Principal Secretary, Social Welfare, E. Venkataiah said a notification in this regard had been issued already.

There would also be no need to renew income certificate every year as the one that had been issued would be valid for five years. “Since income changes constantly we did not want to make it permanent and decided to renew it once in five years,” he said.

Mr. Venkataiah said the Karnataka Guarantee of Services to Citizens Act would ensure officials discharged their duties responsibly.
