Following his on-field breakdown during a match between Mohammedan Sporting and Abahani Limited, Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan was given a minor punishment of a three-match suspension from the Dhaka T20 Premier League and a fine of $5,800.

According to ESPNcricinfo.com, Kazi Inam Ahmed, head of the Dhaka Metropolis Cricket Committee (CCDM) — the BCB sub-committee: “According to the match referee’s report, he committed two infractions. He kicked the stumps and tossed them down. Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended for three matches and fined Tk 5 lakh for his actions.”

As a result, Shakib will be unable to participate in the DPL’s eighth, ninth, and tenth rounds.

Shakib lost his cool twice during the game, once when he kicked the stumps after a strong leg-before appeal against his Bangladesh teammate Mushfiqur Rahim, and again when umpires called for covers with one ball left to complete a minimum of six overs of Abahani innings that would be required for a result. He raced in from the middle of the field and removed the stumps this time.

The play began, and Shakib’s team easily won, but he also misbehaved with officials from the opposing side and former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud Sujon.

Shakib later apologised unconditionally on his official Facebook page, but his attempt to destroy match property qualifies as a Level III offence.

“The board president is very much concerned about this (outburst), and wanted to know the root cause: why did it happen? He has asked us to do an investigation before the board meeting this week,” Ahmed was quoted as saying by the website”

”A committee has been formed including myself, Jalal Yunus, Naimur Rahman, Sheikh Sohel and Raqibul Hasan, the chief match referee. We will hear from all the managers and captains of all the clubs, about any objection, incident or (contentious) decision during this Dhaka Premier League.”

Shakib’s obnoxious behaviour became viral, with video footage showing him uprooting the stumps being shared over a million times across many social media platforms.

Shakib has more than 10,000 international runs and almost 600 wickets, making him Bangladesh’s most productive international cricketer.

He had previously served a one-year suspension for failing to disclose a corrupt approach during a previous season of the Indian Premier League.
