In the third week of July, the University of Delhi is set to open registration for entrance tests and PG courses. Despite the cancellation of the class 12 boards, the university is still awaiting the CUCET for undergraduate admissions.

“We are aiming for CUCET to become a reality,” DU acting Vice-Chancellor PC Joshi told a news daily. “Because the admissions process would be delayed till September anyway, a central entrance exam will only serve to bring uniformity to the admissions process, as boards have already adopted multiple grading schemes for class 12 students this year.”

The government is yet to make a decision on how CUCET will be conducted this year.

The university had previously submitted a proposal to the University Grants Commission (UGC) that recommended giving class 12 marks 50% weightage and the rest to a CUCET score.

“The administration is likely to share the final decision on CUCET in the next one week or ten days.

While we may start the admissions process in July, the complexities of admissions, such as cut-off list criteria and normalization of class 12 marks, can only be discussed when the board results are released across the country,” Joshi added.

He stated that if CUCET is not implemented this year, the institution will have to design new methods for mark normalization. As boards do not use a common marking methodology for class 12. “We don’t want a kid from one board to have an advantage over others, so we’ll make sure the procedures are foolproof,” he further stated.
