The University Grants Commission (UGC) is working with the Ministry of Education (AICTE, CBSE), the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, UNICEF-YuWaah, civil society organizations, UN agencies, and a private sector consortium of over 1500 partners to activate the ‘Young Warrior movement.’

People in various regions of the world, particularly India, have suffered unthinkable misery as a result of the second wave of Covid-19. The ongoing COVID-19 issue has instilled leadership skills in adolescents and instilled empathy in them, guaranteeing that kids play a critical part in the virus’s fight at the individual, family, and societal levels.

In a letter to all Vice-Chancellors and Principals, the UGC has requested them to encourage students and/or teachers aged 18 to 30 to join this movement to protect themselves, their families, communities, and the country. During June-July 2021, UGC, in collaboration with UNICEF-YuWaah and partners, plans to host various online capacity-building sessions on subjects such as Covid appropriate behavior, vaccine hesitancy, home care prevention, accurate and verifiable information, and knowledge.

“They can also encourage and engage younger peers of students and teachers to participate in the Young Warrior movement. There are essentially five tasks that are part of the Young Warrior Movement and Young Warriors will be eligible for a UNICEF certificate on completion of tasks (Platform is available in l2 languages),” the UGC letter read.
