Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has been put in isolation after several officials in his office tested positive for the coronavirus.

“Several officers in my department have tested positive for the coronavirus. Any of them spoke with me. As a precaution, I’ve isolated myself and begun my work digitally “He sent out a tweet in Hindi.

This comes on the heels of Uttar Pradesh seeing the highest-ever regular surge.

On Tuesday, the most populous state in the country recorded 18,021 cases and 85 deaths.

“In the last 24 hours, 18,021 new cases have been identified, while 3,474 people have been discharged. There are 95,980 open cases, with 6,18,293 handled and discharged. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the state has recorded a total of 9,309 deaths “Amit Mohan Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary of Health, told reporters.

Earlier this month, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath got the first dose of vaccine in Lucknow.

Apart from keeping an eye on the Covid situation in the state, the Chief Minister has been vigorously campaigning for his party, the BJP, in election-bound Bengal.

The Uttar Pradesh government ordered the closing of all schools until April 30 last week. It also ordered the imposition of night curfews from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. in districts where more than 100 new illnesses are reported every day.

In the last 24 hours, India reported 1,61,736 new Covid incidents, marginally less than yesterday, taking the country’s caseload to over 1.36 crore.
