The number of people infected with the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in India increased to 29,089,069 on Wednesday, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as the country reported 92,596 new cases in the previous 24 hours. The death toll in India’s Covid-19 disaster has now risen to 353,523, with 2,219 new fatalities reported in the same time period.

After 63 days, India’s daily new Covid-19 cases have dropped below one lakh, signalling the end of the pandemic’s second wave, which threw the country’s medical health infrastructure into disarray in the last two months. The weekly positivity rate is currently at 5.66 percent, according to the Union health ministry, while the daily positivity rate has dropped to 4.66 percent, less than 10 percentage points for the 16th consecutive day.

India’s Covid-19 vaccination drive has been open to adults of all ages for 40 days, with several variations in coverage evident across the country’s states. While Himachal Pradesh leads the way in terms of administering vaccines to the greatest number of adults (38%) in the state, states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu have failed to reach even 15% of those who are eligible for vaccination.
