Sadhna Singh, MLA of Mughalsarai made a derogatory remark about BSP chief Mayawati on Saturday rally in reference to an assault in past by Samajwadi Party workers in 1995. The rally went downhill when MLA quoted Mayawati as a ‘blot on woman’ and ‘worse than a transgender’.

National Commission of Women (NCW) is to issue a formal notice to Sadhna Singh and seek an explanation from her about her tarnishing remarks that has also hurt the transgender community. Her statements shocked allies and leaders in opposition, too.

“Former UP CM Mayawati sold her dignity for power and joined hands with those who disrespected her…. She is a blot on womankind. I’m skeptical whether she should be counted amongst men or women, she is worse than eunuchs.”

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale reverted back saying, “Our party is with BJP, but we don’t agree with disrespectful remarks against Mayawati. She is a strong lady of our Dalit community & a good administrator. I would’ve definitely taken action if it was someone from our party.” He included, “Such remarks shouldn’t be made.”

Both, SP and BSP are cold-shoulder to Congress yet the Congress described the lawmaker’s comments ‘disturbing’.
