The police said on Sunday that Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar, who was arrested in a murder case, had a video of the incident filmed to terrorise the city’s wrestling circuit. The wrestler was given six days’ detention by a Delhi court.

“Sushil had asked (his friend) Prince to make that video. He and his associates thrashed the victims like animals. He wanted to establish his fear in the wrestling community,” the police told the court.

Sushil Kumar, who had been on the run for nearly three weeks, was arrested a day ago for his suspected role in the death of a 23-year-old wrestler at Chhatrasal Stadium, along with co-accused Ajay from the Mundka district of Delhi.

Sushil Kumar and his associates allegedly assaulted fellow wrestler Sagar Rana, 23, and two friends on May 4 at the national capital’s Chhatrasal Stadium, according to police. The three had to be admitted to the hospital. Mr Rana died as a result of his injury.

The Delhi Police had offered a reward of Rs. 1 lakh for details leading to Sushil Kumar’s arrest, who had been on the run since then. A new reward of $50,000 has been declared for the capture of Ajay Kumar.

The 37-year-old champion wrestler has been arrested after police raided multiple locations in Delhi and its nearby cities, as well as neighbouring states.

Sushil Kumar had moved a court in Rohini, Delhi, on May 18 seeking immunity from detention, arguing that the investigation against him was biassed and that he was not responsible for any injury caused to the victim. However, the court denied his anticipatory bail request, stating that he was “prima facie the chief conspirator” and that the charges against him were substantial.

In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Sushil Kumar wo a bronze medal, and in the 2012 London Olympics, he won a silver medal.
